Braves Kamps helps Belmont beat Highland

Belmont's girls basketball team got a 27 point outburst from their all-time leading scorer Kailee Kamps and turned back Highland in a key Six Rivers West game Monday.
Kamps put the game on ice with eight unanswered points in the closing minutes of the game. She put in three baskets and added two free throws in her run to lead the Braves to a 53-47 win.
Taylor Wienkes scored 20 points for Highland and Leigh Drury added 14.
The game was tied at 27 at the half but Belmont took a 26-18 second half advantage by outscoring the Cardinals 13-8 and 13-12.
The Cardinals were not ready to pack it in though, and rallied to tie the game at 42 with three minutes left.
That's when Kamps went on her run and put the game away.
"It was a loss but it may have been our best game of the year," said Highland coach Josh Tarrell. "We played all four quarters. We were down 11 twice and battled back but had to foul."
"Kailee Kamps is the real deal," Tarrell said. "She can score inside, outside, off the glass and she was too much for us. We had no answer for her."
The Cards got another solid game from Taylor Wienkes who ruled the post.

In another game last week Highland handed Milwaukee Academy of Science 56-9 in a non-conference game Friday.
The MAS team had six players and arrived at Highland nearly 90 minutes late, after getting lost on the way. Their offense did not arrive with them.
Amber Yager had 12 points and Leigh Drury 11 to lead the Cards to the win.
"It was good of them to come here and play, even after experiencing bus trouble on the way," said Highland coach Josh Tarrell. "We were able to play a lot of girls against them."
