Whenever we receive a note with a subscription, it's nice to share comments with everyone. Recently, Sue Ann Kumlien wrote: "Thanks to all for getting this paper to me in Janesville every week. You've made me one happy Highland girl who can keep up on all the news! Happy Holidays!"

The Dodgeville Chronicle has brought the news to the area (and further) for 150 years. It really doesn't seem that long, but in looking back at the first issue in 1862, I guess it is! Myself - I have only been involved for around 55 of those years with going on 44 of them being full-time!

The start of this weekend's NFL (National Football League" playoffs was quite the game between the New Orleans Saints and the San Francisco Forty Niners. I think the lead changed four times in the last four minutes. It looked as if quarterback Drew Brees, of the Saints, had pulled off a comeback win when he threw a touchdown pass with 1:37 left, but his counterpart - Alex Smith, of the Forty Niners, threw one of his own with three seconds remaining. That was cutting it pretty close!

Here's a driving/crosswalk story that always gets me. The other day I was crossing the street by Kwik Trip heading toward hotel Higbee and the driver in the first vehicle stopped to let me go across. BUT the driver in a vehicle right behind the first - seeing the one in front of him stop - pulled out to go around on the right, not even looking to see if someone was crossing. I had already gotten out in the crosswalk so that vehicle pulling out and around didn't come close to hitting me - but I'm pretty sure he was breaking the law pulling out to go around!

It was a pretty sad ending to a great football season Sunday for the Green Bay Packers as hopes for a repeat Super Bowl Championship went awry against the New York Giants. It was a day that the better team (that day) won. The Giants are on a roll with the defense and offense playing really well - sound familiar? Look back to last year when the Packers came into the playoffs the number 6 seed, barely making it at all. They, too, got on a roll and made it look pretty easy from there on out!
