Dodger girls pressure Iowa-Grant for 57-37 win
When you apply pressure in basketball and it works, things are going good for your team.
When you are the team the pressure is being applied to and you're having trouble, that's not good.
That was the scenario of Tuesday night's non-conference girls basketball game at Iowa-Grant with Dodgeville applying the pressure to I-G. The result was a 57-37 win for the Dodgers.
"I thought we did a very nice job with our full court pressure," said Dodger coach Josh Busch. "When they broke it, we did a nice job rotating in the backcourt and coming up with steals there too. Our plan was to keep them away from getting the ball inside to Olson as much as we could."
Their plan worked as the senior post player for the Panthers was held to just six points in three quarters. She finished with 11, scoring five in the final frame when the Dodger bench was cleared.
The Dodgers jumped to a 14-6 lead and were up 31-15 at the half.
Rachel Pope scored 14 of her game-high 17 points in those first two frames.
Alyssa Larsen led the I-G offense with 13 points, coming up with eight in the third quarter.
"We got a game where a lot of kids got significant playing time," Busch said. "They work very hard in practice and when they were in there, we held the point spread we had built up and they did a nice job rotating and with help defense. This is the first time our first group put us in a position to get the other kids in."
"They caused us to get out of control a lot with their pressure," said Iowa-Grant coach Jason Schulting. "Credit Dodgeville for making us do things we didn't want to do. They have a lot of team speed and we couldn't handle it. And when we did get the ball inside to Josi, they had her surrounded with 2-3 players."

"Finally we get to play at home," Busch said.
Iowa-Grant travel to Cuba City on Thursday in the SWAL.
"It doesn't get any easier," Schulting pointed out.
