Senior night nets win for Barneveld

It was senior night at Barneveld and as Eagle coach Jim Myers always says, "With us starting all of our seniors, it takes us out of our usual flow at the start, but the girls responded and we were able to get right back into it."
He was referring to the fact that his team struggled early, but held a 16-7 lead by the close of the first quarter and were up big at 32-16 by halftime.
Things didn't go as smoothly down the stretch as visiting Albany cut the lead to 10 in the fourth quarter with a little over two minutes left.
The Eagles regrouped and hit some free throws down the stretch for an eventual 52-37 Six Rivers East win.
The win kept them perfect in league, setting up a twice cancelled showdown at also unbeaten Black Hawk Friday night (February 11) with the two teams playing quickly at Barneveld on February 17.
"We are still struggling making shots at times," Myers said. "We had nice pressure and outlet passes, but didn't finish a lot of the time. For two thirds of the game we played really good defense and then all of a sudden it left us - Albany got some good looks and to their credit hit some of them."
Eagle junior Madi Laube led all scorers with 19 points and hit a big three pointer in the fourth quarter. Freshman Rachel Slaney added 14.
"Madi shot real well for us and Rachel went out and played hard," Myers pointed out. "Also, senior Shelby Meyer played solid defense."
We didn't shoot particularly well tonight, but that's okay," Myers added. "We've got some games coming up that we'll need some of those shots that didn't go in tonight to go in then."
He, of course, was referring to the big games with Black Hawk, but they also have a February 9th game hosting Juda (3-3) and a February 23rd game at a scrappy Monticello team (3-3).
Albany was led offensively by Kirstie Kauk and Cassidy Bump with 10 points each.
Barneveld seniors recognized were: Shelby Meyer, Heidi Chapman, Hailey Cannoy and Becka Owens.
