The Wisconsin Badgers basketball team finally let Ohio State beat them at the Kohl Center 58-52 Saturday afternoon in a featured showdown game of two teams ranked in the top 25. What did it? Well, the inability to get to the free throw line (only 3 times) had to really hurt and then shooting under 20% from three point land (5/27) didn't help much either. You should be able to shoot better than that from long range when you play at home!

I'm of the understanding that the Dodge Point Golf Club has been purchased and the course will open this spring. That's great news for all the golfing buffs out there and the Dodgeville and Mineral Point schools as both teams play their home matches there. We should have more news on the new owners' plans soon!

Last Thursday was Groundhog Day. That's when if Jimmy the Groundhog sees his shadow we can expect six more weeks of winter on the horizon - if he doesn't, then spring will come earlier! This is the first year in a long time that I had never really heard anyone mentioning Groundhog Day. When I asked some people about it their reply was "Who cares. Six more weeks of this wouldn't bother me at all!" They were speaking of the temperatures we've been having that are anywhere from 10-20 degrees above the normal temperature for this time of year. Now, just wait, I probably jinxed the whole winter thing!

I heard several "good" comments about the story I wrote last week on Florence and the Crubaughs. Of course I had to have one negative comment. I spelled one of her granddaughters' name wrong - it's Tommi (not Tommy). I just figured she seemed like a "tomboy", so she'd have to spell her name like a boy! Sorry Tommi! Oh, and that comment came from her dad - Chris - and I figured he couldn't spell anyway, so on the birth certificate he would've screwed things up!

A huge congratulations to Dodgeville's Rachel Pope. She reached the 1000 point mark in her career for the Dodgeville girls basketball team last week and will close out her career here as the all-time leader in DHS girls basketball history. She's worked hard and is a good leader on the team!
