Why buy locally

By J. Patrick Reilly-preilly@thedodgevillechronicle.com

On Christmas Eve, a 95 year old resident at the Mineral Point Care Center was experiencing problems with her lift chair that had stopped working. It was a major problem for her because the chair is where she spends the majority of her time.
Thanks to an area business, Ayers Furniture, the matter was quickly resolved. A repair man and a new chair arrived that day. He was able to repair the chair and made the resident a very happy woman.
Her family firmly believes it pays to buy locally from reputable companies. They doubt if their grandmother would have been so fortunate if the chair came from somewhere else.
Consider it a lesson learned. People too often overlook the benefits of buying locally and the incident described here points out why supporting our local businesses is a good idea.
Giving our local merchants the first chance is a good idea.
