Panthers take strides in win over Dogs
Enter 6-9 senior Logan Leverton.
Leverton rammed home 12 points in the third quarter, 15 in the second half and 17 for the game to help the Panthers to the 52-43 win. Teammate TJ Anderson added 15 and helped control the game.
TJ Anderson and Tony Deutsch shot the Panthers out of the blocks with five and four points as Iowa-Grant rolled to a 14-6 first quarter lead. Deutsch and Eli Wienkes then picked up the defense the second half, allowing the Panthers to roll to a 38-24 lead after three.
The Panthers raised the lead to 10 in the first half before Tom Morovits and Ryan Latham drained three pointers in the second quarter to get the Bulldogs within striking distance. Latham had all seven of his points in the second frame while Morovits had five of his 11.
Offensively it was Leverton and TJ Anderson who put the game away the second half.
"Both really took over in the second half," Tripalin said. "They couldn't stop Logan and TJ gave us the performance he is capable of."
The win puts the Panthers at 2-4 and sets the stage for a game at SWAL leader Cuba City Friday.
"This game could be our turning point," Tripalin said. "We are making some strides and I am excited about the direction we are headed."
