Eagles solve Black Hawk in a big way
The two teams tangled Thursday night at South Wayne and after the opening quarter, it was all Barneveld.
All 11 Eagles scored as they rolled to a 73-28 win.
"It was a nice game for us," said Barneveld coach Jim Myers. "Everybody got in during the first half, everybody played good minutes and everybody scored."
"It was close after the first quarter, but by the end of three we had really opened things up," he added.
The Eagles led 15-9 after the opening frame and held a 58-21 advantage at the end of three.
"The girls were hitting three pointers, 7 on the night by 6 different girls). Things were working."
Eagle freshman Hannah Whitish led all scorers with 18 points while sophomore Rachel Slaney added 15 and hauled down 14 rebounds.
"Hannah and Rachel carried us offensively, but everyone else chipped in," Myers said.
Black Hawk was led offensively by Jen Wellnitz with 11 points.
"We did a good job containing Jen tonight," Myers pointed out. "We didn't let her drive ot the basket much and she had five of her 11 on free throws in the fourth quarter," he pointed out.
"Overall, the team played very well," Myers concluded.
The Eagles travel to Albany Friday in Six Rivers East play and host a holiday tournament the following Thursday and Friday.
