It was what you would call an "grinder".
That was the best description anyone could come up with Dodgeville's SWC boys basketball contest with Platteville Tuesday night.
The final score read: Dodgeville 67 Platteville 45, but that didn't tell the tale of the game.
"We found out tonight that we've got to make shots, value the basketball and rebound," said Dodger coach Ryan Bohnsack following the win.
"We had to be patient with the offense tonight. it clearly wasn't clicking,"he added.
The Dodgers found themselves trailing 9-0 early in the first quarter. Thanks to five points, including a three pointer by Austin Larson, they trailed only 12-9 at the period's close.
Larson, who finished with a game-high 22 points, continued his hot shooting and popped in a trio of threes in the second period and finished the first half with 14 points.
The Dodgers held a 26-23 lead at the intermission.
The Hillmen got to within one at 33-32, but then the Dodgers got their transition game going. They pulled down some rebounds and forced some turnovers leading to a 16-12 advantage in the third frame.
They stretched the game out of reach early in the fourth with two Larson free throws coming on a technical foul call and then a steal and lay-in for a 13 point lead.
Another highlight was a Larson to Rohowetz touchdown pass the length of the floor, hitting the receiver in stride, that drew oohs and awes from the fans.
The reserves saw some extended playing time in the fourth, one the Dodgers owned 25-10.
"We made a good run in the third quarter and again in the fourth. We forced some turnovers and got some transition baskets," Bohnsack said.
Besides Larson's scoring, Nick Crowley hit 15 and Rohowetz added 11.
Platteville was paced by Nick Tashner's 12 points with Adam Brogley adding 10.
The Dodgers travel to Evansville for a non-conference contest Friday night.
