Pointers 2nd at Watertown meet

Mineral Point had two champions and finished in the runner-up spot to Warren, Illinois Saturday at the Watertown Early Bird Scramble wrestling tournament.
Reid Suddeth, at 113 lbs. pinned his way to his championship while Robby Chubb, a state runner-up last year, pinned all but one at 160 lbs.
Team scores were: Warren 529, Mineral Point 475, Badger 405, DC Everest 346, Ozaukee 289, Appleton North 271, Winneconne 246, New London 233, Neenah 221, Verona 209, Watertown 192, Beloit 143, Westosha Central 141, Waukesha North 117, Clinton 106, Catholic Central 64.
"I felt we finished the best we probably could," said Pointer coach Scott Schmitz. "Forfeiting at 106 really hurts us in a tournament. It's tough to make up that many points and I don't think we could've caught Warren anyway."
In talking about his individuals he said, "113-Reid came back from being down to get a pin in the championship match. At 120, Scotty was tied for first, but finished third on criteria. He wrestled a great tournament, beating three seniors including the number 2 seed."
"Frank (126) was in probably the toughest weight class and he had kind of a tough day. He battled every match and got us some team points with a couple of pins. At 132,  Jake had a great tournament finishing 2nd. He beat two seniors who had over 30 wins each last year. He wreslted the Warren kid (state qualifier) tough."
At 138, Ross was in another tough weight class. He finished 3rd and that's probably where he should've been with 2 seniors fiishing in front of him. Brandon, a freshman at 145, did a nice job in a pretty stacked weight class. He battled and won some matches."
"Tucker Pickel (152) was in another tough weight class. He did an outstanding job and lost to a state qualifier in getting 3rd. Kolton, at 160, won the seed pool. He's back after a couple of years off."
"John (170) didn't have varsity experience last year and that hurt him in the seed. He improved every match. Robby, at 182, just dominated every match. He pinned a tough New London kid."
"Nate won the B pool at 195 and is a little under weight, but wrestled well. Dakota Hughes also got to wrestle in that class and gained some valuable experience. Brenyn, at 220, I thought could've won that class, but he was a little sluggish in his semifinal match and it cost us. Brian (285) did an outstanding job winning his first career tournament championship."
