The season....

By J. Patrick Reilly-preilly@thedodgevillechronicle.com

Saw a friend the other day who was working on a new electronic device. I asked if she was the owner and she said yes. Then went on to tell me about standing in line for hours on Black Friday to get it. The device sold for the regular price but she got a sizable gift card for purchasing it.
I am glad she got such a good deal. But it also made me think about what the approaching holiday is all about.
In my opinion Christmas should not be about long lines and limited deals. It should not be about parties where too much alcohol is served. It should not be about who gets what from who and how much it costs.
It should be about caring for each other. It should be about taking time to appreciate the truly great people who care about you and you care about them. It should be about helping others. It should be about love...of family, of friends, of life.
I think those are some of the things that are why Christmas happened in the first place. You can read about it in the Bible, hear about it during church services, learn about it by actually living it.
It doesn't take money to celebrate Christmas. It takes something inside you...that little voice that keeps you on track. It can be as simple as the warm feeling you get when you smile and get a smile back.
Black Friday, Cyber Monday and the rest of the commercialism has a place but it should not control the season.
Your heart should.
