Along the Ad Route

We had rain (drizzle) pretty much all day on Saturday, but the annual "Miracle on Iowa Street" parade came off without a hitch at 6:00 that evening. There was pretty good participation with some 15 lighted floats and marchers, but there could always be more. I'm sad to say that is usually a trend in Dodgeville - unlike a lot of the smaller communities around who get out and really support events like this. I realize it is not an "official" chamber of commerce event - but come on!

Santa came in seated high on a horse-drawn float at the end of the parade and then he appeared at the Methodist Church to greet the youngsters and find out their Christmas wishes. It was a fun hour or so and a lot of businesses had a good time making their floats or entries. (see above photo)

Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus and he will be at the Dodgeville Senior Citizen Center on Sundays, December 9th and 16th from 1-3 p.m. Youngsters, families and pets can have their pictures taken with Santa. He can hear your Christmas wishes and you get a candy cane. You can also enjoy some punch and cookies, compliments of the Dodgeville Senior Citizen Center and sit and talk with the folks there. The photos are $1 each with proceeds going to the Empty Stocking Fund and Iowa County Humane Society. Oh, and I'm the one behind the camera!

I was crossing the main street in Dodgeville last Sunday at the Xpressions corner and cars from both the north and south stopped for me. A lady, who was stopped at the west corner, gave me a "thumbs up" as I crossed behind her vehicle to go to Kwik Trip. I think she was happy to see both vehicles stop for me!

I really messed up driving the other day. I don't know what I was thinking. I was at the stoplights by McDonald's with a red light and was heading west. The car in front of me started going (that is usually my cue to go) so I followed it across. I noticed a car that was coming from the west and turning north part of the way out into the intersection that I was going into. I glanced up at the light and saw the "go foreward" light was on red while the turn light was on green. That'll teach me to not look at the lights and go by the person in front of me - actually I was thinking about other things and instinctively followed the car. I had this erie feeling come over me when I realized what had happened. I'm sure glad the person who was turning correctly on the arrow realized they had two vehicles in the wrong. Boy, if a cop would've been there, they would've gotten two birds at the same time!

I'm not really a FACEBOOK person, but Friday I realized the power of FACEBOOK. It was my birthday and brother Patrick posted it on FACEBOOK. I received 29 birthday congratulations that day - I also received eight birthday cards (and I'm not really a card sender). The FACEBOOK notes came from near and far. It made me feel very good, as did the cards from a bunch of VERY special people!
