Panthers stall in opener

Iowa-Grant's scoring drive had all the drama of good football at New Glarus Friday.
Panther quarterback TJ Anderson and receiver Dakota Barnes hooked up on a fourth down pass play that Barnes hauled in with one hand and Cody Rider came on to kick a second quarter field goal.
That staked the Panthers to a 3-0 lead over New Glarus-Monticello in the second quarter of their non-conference match-up Friday.
But it was the Knights who eventually prevailed and won the battle 17-3.
The Panthers moved into scoring range on both their first two possessions but after halftime it was all NGM. The Knights put 14 points on the board in the third quarter and tacked on a field goal for insurance in the fourth frame.
"The NGM coaching staff made better adjustments at halftime and they also did a better job of getting their kids motivated for the second half," Panther coach Gary Allen said about the turnaround. " NGM was very physical yet played clean, hard hitting football."
Anderson had a good night passing with a 10 for 23 performance for 91 yards.
Barnes caught three of them for 45 yards and Eli Wienkes grabbed five for 39.
The aerial display helped the Panthers to a 10-5 first down difference as the Knights did not complete a pass but ran for 164 yards on 41 carries.
Derek Peat ran for 60 yards on 14 carries to lead Iowa-Grant's running game. The Panthers ran for 88 yards.
Ross Caygill lead Iowa-Grant in tackles with 5 solos and 4 assists.
What did the Panthers take away from this game?
"We need to be more aggressive on both offensive and defensive lines," coach Allen said.
Next up is Boscobel who the Panthers entertain Friday.
"Boscobel is an improving program," Allen said. "They are physical and play hard. We will need to improve this week and play very well on Friday."
