Along The Ad Routes

I hope people don't say "there's noting to do this weekend"! Besides the football, volleyball and soccer games that will be going on, there's several Labor Day celebrations - like in Ridgeway and Highland for instance. Then, there's the annual Iowa County Fair at the fairgrounds in Mineral Point that goes on from Thursday through Labor Day Monday. There's lots of entertainment, good food, carnival rides and other fun thing happening plus "show"day on Saturday when a lot of animals will be auctioned off that evening. Take a jaunt to the fair and look over the animals and projects youngsters have been working so hard on to get them to the fair.

I have a few "driving" stories to tell you, but these are ALL about WISCONSIN drivers. The other day I was heading around the roundabout, going onto North Bennett Road from South Bennett Road. That means I was pretty much going straight - as straight as you can go on a roundabout! When I reached the spot where people merge that are coming from Madison way, a woman didn't even bother to look my way to see that I was just a few yards away from her and she headed into the roundabout. It was a good thing I was watching her not watch or it would've been "crash city"! Then, I was heading north on Union Street when a vehicle stopped at the stop sign on Spring Street. That driver must've been in a hurry as I was just a few yards away from that spot when the vehicle raced across the intersection - again it was good I was watching! And I was heading south on Johns Street when a driver decided not to stop at the stop sign on Swayne Street and almost nailed me as I was approaching that intersection. I was beginning to think it wasn't my day to be driving!

I really don't know why more people don't make it to the Iowa County Antique & Collectors Club Power Show at the Iowa County Fairgrounds in Mineral Point. That took place last weekend and I was there on Saturday and there weren't many people to watch the "old"way of splitting logs and threshing. I learn a lot just talking to the people involved. Also there are some neat displays of models and old machinery in the exhibit hall along with some vendors with great items. I'm trying to think of a way to get more people involved - any ideas?
