This coming Saturday is the 90th birthday of longtime friend Kathryn McGraw. I have know her and her family for years upon years and her son Bob was a classmate of mine in high school - he died just after we graduated. "Happy Birthday Kathryn!"

This coming weekend is the Wisconsin High School Regional Rodeo that is held at the Iowa County Fairgrounds in Mineral Point with performances on Saturday and Sunday. There are also go arounds on Friday evening and Saturday morning. There are a lot of aspiring cowboys and cowgirls around the area who will be taking this one in.

Also this week is the Annual Cobb corn Roast celebration with events going on throughout the week (ball games, etc.) with the big day being Sunday when the parade takes place at 2 p.m. and FREE sweet corn is given out. There is a "Classic Car Show" on Saturday that attracts a lot of onlookers too!

Another big event this Saturday is the Dairyland Dare bicycle trek that can go as far as 300K. It starts at Lands' End and ends at Lands' End and takes bikers in the Dodgeville, Mineral Point, Ridgeway, Barneveld, Hollandale and Highland areas. I would have to get myself into shape to be able to participate in anything like that!

Down the road a tad is the Dodgeville Kiwanis Chicken Barbecue that is the club's main fundraiser each year. It's held at Harris Park and you pretty much need tickets in advance if you want to get any of the "good" food!

Cousin Jeannette is supposed to be here from Atlanta this week. She used to spend many a summer in the Dodgeville area during her "teen" years and went to college at UW-Platteville. Her husband Jack isn't making this trek with her. He's a Darlington native.

Since gasoline at the pump prices went up $.50 in the last couple of days, I think I'm going to have to buy a bike and start traveling around on that cheaper fuel vehicle!
