Knights outduel Ridgeway in Western Section final
The win gave the Knights a 9-7 record and fifth seed in the play-offs. They will play at number four Argyle Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Cardinals fell to 11-5 and go into the play-offs as the second seed. They host number seven Platteville Saturday.
The Knights wasted little time putting runs on the board.
Tanner Solberg was hit by a pitch to lead off the game, stole second and scored on a single by Travis Elvert.
Ryan Reilly then sent the ball over the fence in right center for a two run shot and a 3-0 lead.
The Knights were not done yet.
Eric Rohowetz walked and Jay Lindner followed with a single. Mark Ludwig doubled in Rohowetz and a bases loaded walk to Brandon Weier forced in Lindner. Ludwig scored on a sacrifice fly to center by Solberg.
The Knights sent 11 batters to the plate in the opening inning.
They put on the finishing touches with a three run eighth. Solberg drove in a pair of runs with a double, plating Ludwig who singled and Kristian Haag who ran after Weier drew a walk.
Reilly then sent in Solberg with an infield roller.
Kyle Spurley pitched the win for the Knights with seven innings of work. He fanned 12, walked three and gave up three hits.
Travis Elvert started the eighth and gave up a walk and a hit before the game was called because of rain.
Chris Thousand doubled in Ridgeway's two runs. Aaron Calvert and Tyler Peterson both scored after reaching on walks.
Weston Peterson worked the first inning and took the loss.
Thousand came in for five innings of shutout ball as he fanned five and walked one while giving up five hits.
Dusty Alfred gave up three runs as he went the final two innings. He fanned two and walked two while giving up four hits.
