Eagles roll to three wins

Barneveld's baseball team rolled past Argyle 19-1 Monday in a Six Rivers battle.
Eagles coach Lance Schmitz used three pitchers in the lopsided win. Sawyer Lee went the first three, fanned three, walked two and gave up one hit in getting the decision.
Dustin Hodgson and Colton Moyer both worked one inning of relief. Hodgson struck out one and Moyer three.
Hodgson was 2x2 at the plate while Cole Breuer was 3x4, Carson Carmody 2x3 and JJ Cory 3x4.
Lee had a triple in a 1x1 day while Devon Schult and Ty Hellenbrand both had singles.
Jacob Wright walked three times for the Eagles and scored three runs.
Alex Truethardt was 2x3 for Argyle as the junior shortstop collected both Orioles hits.
"Argyle is young and this was a game that had to be played," Schmitz said. "Now we move into a very important 10 day span."
The Eagles also swept River Ridge in a doubleheader last Friday in a pair of close games.
Devon Schult won the first game with Sawyer Lee getting a relief appearance as the Eagles disposed of the Timberwolves 5-1.
Schult struck out five, walked five and spaced six hits. He gave up the lone run the Wolves put on the board which was unearned.
Lee fanned two in his two inning stint.
"Both pitchers were awesome for us," Schmitz said. "Their performances were dominating."
The Eagles had six hits, a 3x3 performance by Carmody and solo hits by Cory, Straubhaar and Schult. Carmody knocked in a pair of runs.
A walk to Breuer started the scoring for the Eagles in the third inning. Carmody then doubled to put runners on second and third. Schult sent in one run with a single and Straubhaar's fielders choice plated the other one.
Two more runs scored in the fourth for Barneveld. Cory singled and two batters later the bases were loaded. Carmody sent in two with a single.
The final run scored on a walk to Wright, a pair of passed balls and a bases loaded walk to Breuer.
The second game was far from normal and went extra innings before the Eagles earned a 9-8 win. They had to come back twice with a pair of big rallies to get it.
They trailed 6-2 going into the bottom of the seventh and scored four times to tie. They were down 8-6 in the ninth before coming up with three runs to win.
"River Ridge kept coming back and got some big hits," Schmitz said. "They are a much improved team and have a couple players who are very good."
But that did not keep the Eagles from a pair of stunning comebacks to get the win.
The first came in the seventh when the Eagles "worked the plan" according to Schmitz.
"We knew what we needed to do and it worked," he said.
Bryson Sorenson, a freshman first baseman who came in when Ty Hellenbrand took the mound, coaxed a walk in his first varsity at bat. Cory then singled and a balk moved the runners to second and third. Breuer then singled both in.
Carmody then singled and the game became tied on a clutch single by Schult.
The winning run was 90 feet away when the Wolves got the last out.
Hodgson walked to start the comeback in the ninth. He stole second before Breuer walked. Carmody then singled and Schult doubled before Lee's double cleared the bases and got the Eagles the win.
Lee worked the first five innings, fanned three, walked one and gave up two hits and an earned run on Joel Mezera'a solo home run.
Carmody came on in the sixth but lasted only 1/3 of an inning. He gave up three hits, two earned runs, walked one and fanned one.
Hellenbrand went the final 3 2/3 with four Ks, four walks, seven hits and five earned runs.
