Dodgers short in run department
The Dodgers staged a comeback with four runs in the bottom of the seventh to fall a run short in a 7-6 loss to Platteville Thursday. The game ended with the winning runs stranded when the Hillmen second baseman made a diving stop and turned it into a 4-6-3 double play.
The Dodgers scored a run in the bottom of the first when Jasper Meeker led off with a single, stole second and scored on a infield hit by Ryan Bell.
They added a run in the sixth when Bell reached on a fielders choice and scored on a bases loaded walk to Brian Simmons.
Their four runs in the seventh came on two errors, four walks--one to Austin Larson to force in a run--a fielders choice by Brycen Pratt that brought in a run and an rbi single by Simmons.
Platteville's David Bast had a solo home run in the fifth and Logan Emendorfer drove in a run in the third with a triple. He scored on an infield out.
They put across three runs in the seventh on a hit batsman, an error, two singles and a double by Jesse Heer.
Larson started on the mound for the Dodgers and worked six innings before giving way to Brycen Pratt and Nick Crowley. Larson struck out five, walked two and gave up four hits along with two earned runs. Pratt gave up three hits and two earned runs. Crowley stopped the bleeding by inducing a ground out in three pitches.
The Dodgers had four hits, all singles, one each by Meeker, Simmons, Bell and Crowley.
Dodgeville scored one run at River Valley as righthander James Brey limited them to three hits in Friday's SWC test they dropped 5-1.
Nick Crowley was 2x4 and had the lone rbi when he drove in Kristian Haag in the fifth. Haag had reached on a fielders choice.
The other Dodger hit was a single by Travis Hendrickson in the top of the seventh.
Meeker worked five innings for the Dodgers and issued five strikeouts, a walk and seven hits. Crowley struck out one, facing three batters in his one inning of work.
Travis Jacobson led River Valley with a 3x3 plate appearance. He tripled and had a pair of doubles.
Clay Nelson also had a multiple hit game for the Blackhawks, going 2x3 with a double and three rbis.
Carter Hoffman and Don Kraemer added singles to the River Valley attack.
The Dodgers are at Prairie du Chien today and at Lancaster Friday, both SWC contests. They travel to Riverdale Monday for a 4:30 non-conference game.
