Dodger softball falls to Prairie
She didn't allow a hit through the first three frames before a walk to Brooke Lee, a hit by Haley Jones and a groundout by Courtney Cushman drove in a run. That made the score 3-1 a that point, as Prairie had plated three runs in the top of the third.
Prairie scored two more times in the fourth, four times in the sixth and twice in the seventh for their 11 tallies.
The Dodgers scored a single run in the sixth on a walk to Samantha Crowley and a single by Jones.
Their final tally came in the seventh on a consecutive hits by Megan Dalsing and Sam Arnold.
Jones was 2x2 on the day with Dalsing and Arnold getting the other safeties, all singles.
Arnold struck out eight and walked five. She gave up 15 hits and six earned runs.
Lindsey Ariss was 3x5 with a triple to lead Prairie. Olivia Skemp, Katie White, Julia Pintz, Carley Mergen and Taylor Moret each had two hits with Wikan and Chelsea Fisher both collecting one. Fisher and Moret had doubles.
"Prairie had a young team similar to ours, but at least on this day that's where the similarities ended," said dodger coach Gene Van Dyck. "They out hit us big time, out fielded us and out pitched us. We caused a lot of our own problems with errors that let them get four or five outs in an inning. But, perhaps the biggest difference in the two teams was Prairie's speed. I think they have the best team speed I've seen in quite some time. That enabled them to make several really tough defensive plays that took away scoring opportunities from us"
"Their pitcher was by far the best we've faced so far and she just dominated us early.. Our only bright spot was Haley Jones, who reached base all three plate appearances and was 2x2."
