It was great to see two Dodgeville athletes - Rachel Pope and Jake Bechen - make the PREP PROFILE in the State Journal recently. Rachel ended her basketball career at DHS as the girls' all-time leading scorer with well over 1000 points, went to state in track & field and played volleyball plus ran cross country. She has earned 11 letters and will probably get one in track by season's end. She also has a grade point average of 4.018. Jake has letters in basketball and football and is currently playing golf. He has a grade point average of 3.7. Both Rachel and Jake were Dodgeville Chronicle All-Area Players of the Year this past winter sports season!

There's a lot going on this weekend. The Dodgeville city-wide garage sales take place mainly Saturday with some starting on Thursday and Friday and running through Sunday. The Wisconsin "Grilled Cheese" Contest will be held at the Iowa County Fairgrounds in Mineral Point - there's refreshments, tomato soup - FREE admission, live music and more! Also, on Saturday, there's a benefit for Camy and Norge Nelson at the Cobb Community Building. They are "good folks"", so a stop there would be great! On Friday and Saturday there's the Dodgeville Methodist Church Spring Rummage and Plant Sale with a bake sale on Saturday.

We received a note from former Dodger Merdelle Kurh with her Chronicle subscription renewal from Mesa, Arizona. She said, "Thank you for my renewal notice to the Chronicle. I receive it every Friday (No complaints on one-day delivery). Chronicle date is Thursday and I get one day delivery."

Earlier in the week, weather reports were that it was supposed to be 70 degrees on Saturday, but rain. When Saturday began, it was just a beautiful day, with the temperatures reaching 70, and it went all day long until about 10 p.m. That's when the thunder and lightning began. Rain reports ranged anywhere from 3/4 to 2 inches. It was a pretty gentle rain, so it soaked into the ground pretty nicely. It was much needed!

Temperatures and humidity stayed pretty high all night long. When I got into my car and backed it out of my garage in the morning, the windows steamed right up!

Sunday was supposed to be a really bad weather day with chances of rain, hail, snow, tornadoes, but nothing prevailed. I heard a few rumbles of thunder at one time, but really nothing else - thank goodness! The "March" winds (in April) continued Monday and boy was it cold AGAIN!

High school golf season has officially begun with a lot of area teams in competition last weekend. If the season could've started earlier, the weather in March surely was fantastic. i know a lot of the courses around here got as early a start as they have in my lifetime!

It's only a few weeks before the colleges, tech schools and universities will be getting out. That means a lot of the summer jobs will be filled by students so they can get some money to go back to school and further their education.

You know it's getting time for summer baseball, too, when longtime Wisconsin Babe Ruth Dane County Commissioner Francis Gorst stops at the office and runs a zillion copies of schedules for the some 139 teams he oversees in the area Babe Ruth Leagues. Francis spent part of Sunday afternoon a the Chronicle running his copies.

Home Talent baseball season for Dodgeville begins Saturday with a 5:00 p.m.game at Centennial Park. Before the colleges get out its always fun seeing who starts the season and at what position!

I don't know what got into me. Saturday I stopped at my late buddy's place and bought two "things" to eat. I know better than to get anything that's fried as that's REALLY bad for my health, so I got a couple of "things" that aren't fried - the Danish rolls. I didn't say that I ate them though!
