Schult, Lee combine to shut out Montello

Devon Schult and Sawyer Lee combined their pitching talents to hold visiting Montello scoreless in a non-conference baseball game Thursday.
The Barneveld Golden Eagles scored single runs in the second, fourth and sixth to turn in a 3-0 win.
Schult worked 4 1/3 and registered three strikeouts while walking two. He gave up three hits.
Lee went the final 2 2/3, striking out two, walking one and giving up one hit.
Montello got three of their hits in the first inning to put the first three batters on base. Schult then ended it with a pair of strikeouts and a grounder to second.
The visitors tried a comeback in the seventh and had the tying run at the plate when Lee shut the door with a strikeout.
Barneveld scored the run they needed in the second. Lee singled and Tyler Hellenbrand moved him with a sacrifice bunt attempt but got to first before the throw. A walk to Colton Moyer loaded the bases and another free pass issued to Jacob Wright sent Lee home.
Colton Moyer walked to open the fourth and Wright dropped down a bunt. Dustin Hodgson then singled and a delayed steal got Barneveld its run.
Hellenbrand opened the sixth with a single and Tyler Owens sacrificed him to second. A balk got Hellenbrand to third and he scored as Wright beat out an infield grounder.
Hodgson and Hellenbrand both had two hits while Carson Carmody and Lee had one.
"Montello has a good team and a bunch of big kids," said Barneveld coach Lance Schmitz. "They are a bigger school with a lot of experience. It was fun to play someone different and this game had almost a tournament atmosphere."
