May fashions no-hitter in win over Boscobel

Facing only 25 batters, Mineral Point senior pitcher Brock May turned in a complete game no-hitter to lead the Pointers past Boscobel 8-0 in their SWAL season opener.
It is the second no-no of May's mound career and this was his most dominating effort. He struck out 12 and walked only two while allowing only one runner to get to second base. That happened in the sixth inning when May was tiring and walked two in a row after two were out. But, he ended any Boscobel hopes of getting to him with a strikeout.
Eight of the nine outs he recorded other than strikeouts were ground outs. Only one ball got to the outfield and that was a fly ball to center to lead off the third.
"It was a good way to start the conference season," coach Dan Burreson said. "Great effort by Brock tonight. He had great command and control, striking out 12 and only walking a pair. He has pitched well in both starts and Luke Radtke has done a great job behind the plate."
A chance at a perfect game ended in the fourth when the first batter reached on the only Pointer error of the game.
"We did a better job defensively tonight, only committing the one error," Burreson said.
Three runs in the third were enough for the win. Radtke led off with a single and stole second. May walked but got picked off first. Lance Miller then sacrificed Radtke to third to get to the top of the Pointer order.
Brady Tibbits then singled and Ian Ewers followed with another one base hit to send Tibbits who had stolen second, to third. Grant Myers kept it going with a single and Logan Benish's double made it 3-0.
Two more runs scored in the fourthon a two run single by Tibbits. He also drove in two more runs in the sixth with a double.
"Offensively, we continue to get a number of guys contributing up and down the line-up," said Burreson. "Brady Tibbits did a great job in the leadoff spot reaching three times with three hits driving in four runs. Grant Myers and Logan Benish both had two hits in the middle of the line-up combining for three doubles, two by Logan and one by Grant. Logan drove in a pair of runs. Seven of the nine guys in the order had hits and the other two hit the ball hard."
