Highland races past Belmont
The win sent the Cardinals to 3-1 on the season with the Six Rivers win.
Junior pitcher Nic Pierick fanned 10, walked five and was stingy in allowing only two hits to lead the Cardinals on the mound.
Sophomore second baseman Riley Crapp was the rbi leader with five, three coming in on a double to the left corner in the third and two more scoring on bases loaded walks. Crapp was 1x1 for the Cards.
Trey Olson was 1x2 and drove in a pair of runs for Highland.
Blake Bodenstein was 2x4 with an rbi while Bailey Bodenstein and Pierick both were 1x3 with a run driven in. Tyler Kleist recorded an rbi with a 1x2 performance while Austin Yager and Mario Campbell both were 1x1.
The game was played in gale-like conditions with strong winds.
"It was a tough wind," said Highland coach Terry Cool. "Their starting pitcher threw well but when they went to the bullpen they had a lot of problems finding the strikezone."
The game turned sharply in Highland's favor in the third when Crapp laced his double to highlight the nine run frame.
The Cardinals host Monticello Friday in a Six Rivers twinbill.
