I had emailed Daniel Kambel, Sports Information Director at UW-Platteville, for some individual action photos of several players who graduated from schools in our area namely Chantal McReynolds and Jordan Johnson of Mineral Point and Taylor Ruchti of Barneveld. He was busy with baseball when he received my email (via his android phone) and said he would get them to me later. They arrived Saturday morning. After receiving the photos I emailed him back this response: "Thanks! It's Saturday, your day off...right!" His reply was: "Not when you are building a new website and getting things in kids' hometown newspapers (my favorite part of the job)." I emailed a response saying: I guess that's kind of why I'm here on Saturday too - except for the website part - way over my head!" Then he responded: "Hopefully come July 1, you'll see the website and feel a sense of 'wow'!" Instead of emailing I could've done the texting thing, but I'm not that prolific with my fingers!

We had a "part of the family" gathering Easter Sunday at Ludden Lake as only two of brother Pat's five kids could make it for the noon gathering. It was a pretty nice day outside, so after eating we retired to the patio and the younger kids (his grandchildren) spent a little time playing while the parents, grandfather and great-uncle all sat at a patio table and chairs and talked. The temperatures are still about 10 degrees or so above the norm for this time of year. That night, it was Country Kitchen with Ryan and his family - long Easter!

I ran into Bill and Ginnie Helin at church Sunday and they said there were times this winter that they called back to daughter Amy and the temperature was higher here than it was down south where they were! They couldn't believe the stretch of three weeks we had here when the temperature reached 80 on several occasions. Bill (being A LOT older than me) reiterated my sentiments about never remembering a stretch that long during the winter with temperatures that high - maybe a day or three!

The Iowa County Humane Society is holding "PAWS FUR A CAUSE" on April 21. That's a good fundraiser for the humane society and provides some good exercise for people who do the run/walk - pets can take part with their owners, too! It starts at 9 a.m.

A new event to the area may be worth checking out that same Saturday at the Iowa County Fairgrounds in Mineral Point. A grilled cheese cook-off will take place from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. That sounds right up my alley!

It's pretty amazing what giving up sweets/desserts/soda during the Lenten season can do for the waistline. I have to report that I lost 9 pounds by doing just that for six weeks. I'd give them up all of the time, but pretty soon I'd waste away to NOTHING!

I was going into Corner Drug Store the other day and a fellow I thought was a friend was coming out. He asked me if I was going to cross the main street after I had finished my business inside. He said he was asking because he was going to his car now and was going to head back home (out of town). I spent the next few minutes trying to figure out just what he was getting at......?!!!
