Along The Ad Routes

Sunday wasn't the best days to be outdoors as it was chilly (52 degrees) and there were some drizzles of rain at times. But the annual OKTOBERFEST came off okay at ss. Anthony and Philip Church in Highland. There sure were some big pumpkins and squash on display. The weighing crew did it a different way this year and it seemed to run pretty smoothly. There was a pretty big crowd inside chowing down on the German food and mulling around looking at the auction items. And, of course, the beverage tent had a few people. That's an event the Highland people should be real proud of!

Dodgeville's own (by way of Hollandale) Jerry Whitford gave me a little ditty for my column. He was in Fort Atkinson the other day and he and wife Judi stopped at Culver's for some ice cream. He walked over to the bin they keep their daily and weekly papers in and picked up the top paper to look at. To his surprise it was "The Dodgeville Chronicle" ! I think he told me something like - "I just can't get seem to get away from you guys!"

Last week's bios about this year's Dodgeville Athletic Hall of Fame inductees had some errors in it, so we're running it again this week with the corrections. I used the old "copy and paste" method of putting them below each photo, but I guess some copying went to the next side of what was sent to me. I had to export it from my computer to my desktop before I could copy it correctly - some computer savvy person would've know that first hand. Anyway, if you read it this week, it should make more sense and is the one anyone who wants it to save, then this is the one. My apologies to all involved!

Homecoming here is Friday night as it is at Iowa-Grant.

Hopefully the weather will cooperate better for halftime ceremonies and the football game this week over what it was like last Friday night. I was only at the game for a little while as my cousin Jeanette and, her husband Jack and other relatives were eating fish at the Red Room and I was supposed to be there too. Anyway, only being there for the first quarter I got pretty chilled!

Speaking of cousin Jeanette. She makes the trek from Atlanta at least once a year, sometimes twice. Besides cousins Jean (Reilly) Halverson of Richland Center, cousin Deb (Reilly) Wilkinson and aunt Darlene Reilly, both of Dodgeville, she got to see Pat and myself along with several friends. Jack had a chance to meet some brothers for golf at Dodge-Point and the Little Springs. Their mother is in Darlington, where Jack is from. Jeanette and Jack will be going to the Packers/Falcons game in Atlanta October 6th. I guess they will be pulling for the Falcons, but with a little tongue and cheek rooting for the Packers. Last year for the playoffs, one fan had a shirt that was Atlanta in front and Packers in back. Both of them said that may not be a bad idea for them EXCEPT that their son may kill them if they did that!
