A look at Facebook

By J. Patrick Reilly-preilly@thedodgevillechronicle.com

Not too often does a day go by without someone mentioning the social networking tool Facebook.
I spend time on it because my family does. It is one way I can keep up with them and occasionally get into a good chat.
That is the 25% of it I like.
I would like it more if it wasn't used at times to hurt people. Too often things get posted that are not what they seem. The newspaper man in me tells me to check out the facts and when I do, often the person posting has them completely wrong.
That ends up hurting people.
A good rule would be to never post anything that you would not want posted about yourself. Ah....if only that could happen.
I also do not appreciate the vulgar language that seems to appear all too often. If you want to talk that way to people you are with, then have at it. But there are those of us who do not appreciate the use of words we would not use in front of our mother.
At the paper we try hard to print the truth and get the facts straight. When we get through with a story we check and recheck the facts. We want it to be correct.
It would be nice if that could happen on the social network too.
And, no....Facebook is NOT going to be charging for content.
