Dodgers show improvement in loss
"She was a huge force for us to go against," new Dodgeville coach Tricia Olson said. "She did a great job no matter where she was on the floor."
Platteville swept the three games 25-10, 25-12 and 25-13. Lawinger led the way with nine kills and a block.
"There wasn't much consistency for Dodgeville," Olson said. "We had many self forced errors. Our lone freshmen, Taylor Stanek, who was targeted most of the time by Platteville's serve, did an all right job. She will be targeted by most teams, so we need to keep preparing her for that."
Olson saw some promise in the setting of Megan McCarthy.
"Megan was pretty consistent in her setting, and worked to make sure she was in on every play," Olson said. "We struggled to find an open spot on the floor when hitting, but Kristi Bramlett, Taylor Stanek, and Rachel Pope were all able to find the spot a couple times throughout the match."
She was also pleased the Dodgers competed.
"Although we did not win, there was potential in a couple of the games," Olson said. "We had a semi-come back in game two and game three, but too many mistakes and not enough talking led to the Platteville's complete domination."
She said she was glad to get the first conference test out of the way.
"The players were nervous, and I was nervous, but we got the first real one out of the way," she said. "All we can do is look forward and constantly improve. Against Platteville we lost, but it was still a large improvement from the team that walked into to the gym on August 15. All we can do is keep getting better, and one day, we will get what we're after, that first conference win!"
