Along The Ad Routes

Boy! What a first round home talent play-off game Sunday at Centennial Park. The game was scoreless until the ninth inning when both teams scored a run on a bases loaded walk - an oddity. Then, the Dodgeville Knights won in the bottom of the 10th inning on a sacrifice fly by Gary James that scored Karl Reynolds from third base. It was a pitcher's duel right down to the end with neither team posing much of a scoring threat throughout the first eight innings. Members of the 1974 Dodgeville team who were part of the first play-off team were recognized prior to the game with Craig Heibel, Jeff Heibel, Bert Schwantes, Ed Edwards, Jack and Dick Stephens being there. Dick Stephens (shown) was a pitcher for that team and had the honor of throwing out the first pitch - it was a strike, just like a lot of the pitches he threw when he was a player. Left to right are: Jack Stephens, Bert Schwantes, Craig Heibel, Ed Edwards, Jeff Heibel and Dick Stephens.

Oh, the Knights host De Forest, who was also a winner last Sunday, so the winner of that game will be in the driver's seat for the overall championship. Stop up to Centennial Park at 1:00 and be treated to another good baseball game - and stop at the stand - there are some friendly people there who will gladly serve you a brat, hamburger, hot dog, beverage or snack!

Another game over the weekend that was quite a game and also went overtime was the Dodgeville-Mineral Point high school football game. The Pointers won in OT, but it could've been won by the host Dodgers on the final play of the game. It was hard hitting just like most games between these two schools.

This Thursday (today) is the start of the Iowa County Fair. That means the fairgrounds in Mineral Point will be bustling with people for five days. There is a lot of entertainment and activities for the youngsters as well as competition between the youngsters for a lot of championships ranging from animals to crafts to baked goods to fun activities. Like the old saying goes - "It's Your Fair. Be There!

I guess it's because I bought buns from my late buddy's place that the food sales were so good at Sunday's home talent game. I will have to admit that I ran out of what I bought from that "Not So Quality" place and was forced to go elsewhere for some other buns. I didn't hear "too many" people complain when we changed!
