I wonder how many of our readers make $100,000 in a year? The other day I heard that the average salary of a National Basketball Association (NBA) player is $92,000+ A WEEK! Gee, I really feel badly for those people as the players are currently in a lock-out. That's similar to a strike. I wonder if they ca live off of the money they have made in the past years?

A kind of oddity occurred Sunday as the Texas Rangers baseball team hosted the St. Louis Cardinals in Major League Baseball World Series action while just a short distance away the St. Louis Rams were being hosted by the Dallas Cowboys in NFL football. It isn't very often you find teams in two different sports from the same cities playing on the same day in the same city (Arlington).

I've said it before.....talking on a cell phone and driving can be dangerous. The other day I was at a 4-way stop in Dodgeville and was the only one stopped. A young woman approached to my right and stopped a few seconds after I did. the driver was on her cell phone and didn't even look my way. She just pulled her vehicle out to keep heading north. It was a good thing I noticed her on the cell phone and kept an eye on whether or not she was going to pull out before I did!

This Saturday is the annual Dodgeville Downtown Halloween Party. Hopefully the weather is favorable for the outside event - where the downtown is blocked off from traffic so youngsters can run from business location to business location and play the games that are set up for them and win a bunch of prizes! It's 2-5 p.m.

That same day, the Dodgeville-Mineral Point cross country teams will be running at the state meet in Wisconsin Rapids. The girls are really on a roll and have been to state as a team for 16 consecutive years counting this year. The boys are making their second consecutive trip to state. The girls are defending Division 2 state champions while the boys were runners-up last year. Good luck to both teams!

The Highland football team won its first round playoff game last week and will be playing at home again this week against a familiar opponent in Belmont. They have been playing really well and have a good shot of going far in the Division 7 playoffs!

This week's Chronicle includes our second edition of the "Best of" as picked by our readers. There were a lot of responses to our survey and some changes in category winners from last year - some stayed the same. Make sure you check them out!

In two weeks we all get to sleep in an hour longer if we wish. That means we set our clocks back one hour before we go to bed Saturday night. Something I look forward to in the fall as I finally catch up on that hour of sleep I lost last spring!
