Panthers own the milk can for 2011

Besides having the coveted "milk can" in Iowa-Grant territory at least for the next year, the Panthers football team shut out Fennimore Friday with consistency and strong play.
The Panthers scored once in the first, second and fourth quarters to claim a 20-0 win in a SWAL showdown and in the annual "milk can" game.
Ben McFall threw his 6-5, 285 pound body on a football that rolled out of Logan Bollant's hands in the first quarter. Bollant had neared the end zone and tried to reach the ball over when it was knocked from his possession. But, McFall was not about to let it go over to the Golden Eagles and pounced on the ball to chalk up a score for the Panthers.
McFall's alertness and aggressiveness did not surprise Panther coach Gary Allen.
"Ben plays very hard," Allen said. "He has a rare combination of size and quickness. The best part is he isn't close to reaching his potential."
Derek Peat ran in the next two scores for the Panthers. He raced 32 yards in the second quarter for one score then spun in from the four in the final frame.
Peat totaled 110 yards for the night to lead the Panther ground game.
"Derek took advantage of some good blocking and ran very hard," Allen said. "Derek has made steady improvement as has the whole team."
The Panthers also had 28 yards through the air with Blake Welu hitting Brandon Pierick twice.
"Brandon always plays very hard," Allen said. "He really wants the ball and when it is in the air he believes he can get to it no matter what."
The Panthers wrap up their SWAL season Friday when they host Riverdale.
"Friday night is Senior Night so that will be special," Allen said. "They provide very good leadership because they have worked very hard and earned the respect of the rest of the team. On top of that we are always trying to see how much we can improve and how well we can play regardless of our opponent. This game is no different."
