I guess I'm really a kid at heart! Last Monday I was walking out of the Chronicle parking lot on the west side and I looked to the left and then to the right like you're supposed to do when crossing a street. The only thing is I forgot to look back to the left. I was so intrigued by the street work going on a block west on Merrimac Street (like kids do) that walked right out in front of a truck that had turned the corner since I had looked to my left!

I was at the annual home Talent League banquet Sunday night and a couple of people from out of town commented on my column and my ability to cross the main street without being hit. I said it was amazing how many people let me cross and then yell out "You were lucky this time" or they yell out that it was a good thing they were behind the vehicle that let me cross. The other day I was going to cross when I noticed the approaching vehicle wasn't going to stop in any way. It was a young woman driver who just looked straight ahead, totally ignoring that I was in the crosswalk on the corner. Her vehicle displayed a Wisconsin license --- BUT the two behind her were from my favorite "driving" state of IOWA and they didn't stop either!

It's not too far down the road that the annual Dodgeville Halloween party will take place in the downtown area. That's when youngsters can play all kinds of games, win prizes and have a lot of fun while wearing their costumes (or not) and the grown ups can come along and take a lot of photos of them and their friends. It will all happen in the afternoon on Saturday, October 29th.

We've got two "ethnic" restaurants in Dodgeville that are both undergoing extensive remodeling for a while. Golden Crown Chinese Restaurant is closed for a month or two to remodel and Las Brisas Mexican Restaurant has had the building sold and the owners are going to remodel the convenience store and put gasoline pumps back in. That all forces that restaurant to close for maybe 2-3 months or more.

Florence Crubaugh - my late buddy's wife - is in 7th heaven right now with the Milwaukee Brewers in the baseball playoffs. They are in the NLCS (National League championship Series) and hoping to get to the World Series. Flo gets to go to the playoff games as much as she can. I hope she gets to the World Series too!
