Dodge-Point XC teams dominate


Saturday was a great day for the Dodgeville-Mineral Point cross country teams.
Both the girls and boys teams were winners in the Large Schools Division at the Platteville Invitational. Also, the JV girls perfect scored the field with 15 team points and had 13 runners finish in the overall top 20.
"It was a great day at the Platteville Invite and the Dodge Point runners brought their "A" game and performed very well. The fan support was tremendous at this meet, and the runners responded with one of the best efforts of the year so far," were the words of Dodge-Point coach Denny McGraw following the meet.
Platteville's Tricia Serres ran away with the girls individual title in a time of 14:15 (course record), but then came Dodge-Point.
Molly Hanson took second in 14:44 with Hannah Owens fourth in 14:48. Ann Eisenzimmer was fifth in 14:57 and Mairin Cahill finished sixth in 15:04. Abby Philipps rounded out their scoring at 29 by taking 12th in15:48.
Emily Philipps was 19th (13th team) in 16:03 and Macy McConnell was 21st (15th) in 16:09.
Madison Edgewood's Amy Davis took the third slot in 14:46.
Other team scores were: Edgewood 51, Platteville 80, Monroe 144, Evansville 151, Sauk Prairie 159, Lodi 180, Southwestern/Cuba City 241, Wisconsin Dells 242, Prairie du Chien 244, Brodhead/Juda 250.
About the girls team, McGraw said: "The varsity girls outran all the competition in the large school division by scoring only 29 points to their nearest competitor, Edgewood's 51. It was exciting to see the varsity girls really step it up and do so well. Molly Hanson, Hannah Owens and Anna Eisenzimmer all were under 15 minutes for the second week in a row on a very tough course. Mairin Cahill and Abby Philipps both ran in the 15s which ensured such a lop-sided victory for the varsity girls. Both Emily Philipps and Macy McConnell were in the low 16s to finish in the top 15."
In the JV race, the top five were all Dodge-Point with Mary Hanson winning in 16:48, followed by Kylie Greenheck 1655, Megan Hottmann 17:01, Tessa Solberg 17:05 and Mikaela Bakker 17:17.
Their other finishes were: Anna Schmit 7th 17:21, Ellie Binsfeld 8th 17:26, Debbie Heth 11th 17:52, Brittany Walczak 12th 17:52, Emilee Grunow 14th 18:00, Caitlyn Bauer 15th 18:05, Cheyenne Carroll 16th 18:13, Alayna Husom 20th 18:29, Dani Wetter 24th 18:33, Mikalah Enright 38th 19:00, Melissa Seman 40th 19:09, Nichole Doolittle 57th 19:40, Brooke Meudt 76th 19:59, Laura Neill 100th 21:10, Carmen McKellips 103rd 21:17, Katie Johnson 130th 2314, Diana Dochnahl 110th 27:45.
Final team scores were: D-P 15, Edgewood 67, Darlington 70, Boscobel 124, Platteville 153, New Glaurs/Monticello 162, Sauk Prairie 193, Saint Ambrose Academy 220, Lodi 275, Wisconsin Dells 279, Fennimore 322,
"The JV girls scored a perfect 15, meaning they had the top 5 out of 142 runners. They were on fire! It was so exciting to see so many orange jerseys coming across the finish line, with 12 girls finishing in the top 16. Finishing in the top eight were Mary Hanson, Kylie Greenheck, Megan Hottmann, Tessa Solberg, Mikaela Bakker, Anna Schmit and Ellie Binsfeld. These ladies, along with the entire JV team, really help push the varsity," McGraw said about his reserves, girls almost any other team in the state would love to have as varsity runners.
In the Small Schools Division, Darlington won with 44 points to Boscobel's 61.
The rest of the field was: New Glarus/Monticello 102, Hillsboro 115, Belleville 173, Fennimore 175, Brookwood 179, Lancaster 182, Iowa-Grant 212, Pecatonica-Argyle 214.
Finishes for I-G were: Grace Enloe 31st 18:04, Veronica Schaefer 37th 18:228, Shania Sarbacker 47th 19:02, Chakayla Stanek 48th 19:02, Christine Melby 49th 19:04, Elizabeth Buckhaus 53rd 19:18, Molly Lee 61st 20:45.
In the JV race, Katrina Hale 74th 19:57, Carley Richards 101st 21:13, Leah Brennum 113th 21:52.
The Dodge-Point boys won the Large Schools Division with 40 points to runner-up Monroe's 46, Platteville's 80 and Edgewood's 92.
The rest of the field was: Lodi 102, Wisconsin Heights/Barneveld 185, Sauk Prairie 193, Southwestern/Cuba City 211, Brodhead/Juda 239, Evansville 240,Prairie du Chien 308.
Darlington's Tyson Miehe was the overall winner in course record time of 15:34 while the Large School Division was won by Edgewood's Joe McKenna in 15:54.
Dodge-Point's Trevor Wunnicke was third overall in 16:09 with teammate Brett Hottmann next in16:30.
The rest of Dodge-Point's scorers were: Ian Ewers 9th 17:03, Josef Frank 12th 17:10 and Mark Schmitz 14th 17:31.
Tyler Wunnicke 29th in 18:20 and Greg Hanson 35th in 18:37 were their other runners.
McGraw talked about his runners saying, "The varsity boys showed a lot of determination as they ran very solid races to win the Platteville Invite, beating Monroe for the first time this year. Trevor Wunnicke and Brett Hottmann ran with the elite to lead the way by placing 2 and 3 in the large school division. Ian Ewers, Joe Frank, and Mark Schmitz rounded out the varsity scoring with great performances that ensured a team victory. Tyler Wunnicke and Greg Hanson really put some speed in their step and had their best finishes of the year to date."
In the JV race, Darlington won with 30 points to runner-up Monroe's 58 and New Glarus/Monticello's 67.
Then came Platteville 112, Dodge-Point 120, Boscobel 217, Sauk Prairie 241, Edgewood 248, Albany 254, Lodi 274, Brodhead/Juda 301, Lancaster 320, Wisconsin Dells 387.
Finishes for D-P were: Alex Trollop 11th 18:47, Matt Dougherty 20th 19:10, Cory Ftzsimmons 27th 19:21, Henry Schickel 30th 19:29, Chance Whitlatch 32nd 19:33, Dalton Nohns 35th 19:38, Chanler Leonard 38th 19:49, Patrick Oberhauser 75th 20:53, Preston Phillips 84th 21:02, Steven March 118th 22:03, Caleb Byers 136th 22:53, Ethan Dowling 162nd 23:55, Grant Oberhauser 164th 23:56.
"The JV boys placed 5th out of 13 teams. They are all working hard and improving each week. It is exciting to see them doing so well" McGraw concluded saying.
In the Small School Division, Darlington won with 30 points to Albany's 82 and New Glarus/Monticello's 96.
Then came Lancaster 163, Hillsboro 188, Belleville 206, Iowa-Grant 209, Brookwood 215, Pecatonica-Argyle 223 and Fennimore 240.
Finishes for I-G were: Jordan Jenks 12th 17:39, Kyle Bmkamp 40th 19:06, Shaun Soman 55th 19:48, Cody Wall 57th 19:53, Micah Bomkamp 58th 19:54, Charles Connolly 67th 20:35, Tad Spurley 75th 21:27.
The JV race was won by Darlington's Kyle Schulte in 18:02.
I-G finishes were: Shawn Meuer 54th 20:21, Filippo Fabbroi 8th 20:57, Kyle Faull 99th 21:26, Cheighton Biddick 105th 21:37.
