Dodge-Point Runners Excell at Border War

Current Dodge-Point XC runners, Trevor Wunnicke , Hannah Owens, Anna Eisenzimmer and Mairin Cahill traveled to the Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course on the University of Wisconsin -Parksides campus to run in the annual Brooks Border War. The competition is open to high school athletes from Wisconsin and Illinois. The race is scored as a Cross Country meet with the runners from Wisconsin challenging the runners from Illinois.
This year the Wisconsin teams won both the boys and girls races as Hannah Owens (2nd in 18:41), Anna Eisenzimmer (5th in 19:17) and Mairin Cahill (7th in 19:28) contributed to the thrashing of Team Illinois.
The Wisconsin boys were led by Dodge-Point's own Trevor Wun-nicke as he place 2nd in a time of 16:12.
Molly Seidel from Wisconsin was the overall winner for the girls and Mitchell Wilkens from Crystal Lake Illinois won for the boys.
"I was at the meet as a spectator and these kids ran fantastic! The competition was stellar and these local athletes beat some impressive names. I'd say they ran as well if not better than two weeks ago at the WIAA state championships. I think it is kind of cool to see our athletes expand their horizons and succeed at another level of competition. No one forces these kids to continue training after the regular season is completed, they do it on their own. It speaks to the work ethic of the Dodgeville and Mineral Point communities. I was proud of them," said Dodge-Point coach Joe Hanson
