I had a tip that former University of Wisconsin athlete and Athletic Director (until 2004) Pat Richter was spotted in line checking out at Country Kitchen in Dodgeville a few weeks ago. I had the opportunity to serve both Pat Richter and Elroy "Crazylegs" Hirsch when both were working for the UW and were on their way back to Madison from a trip to Platteville at the time Bo Ryan was a coach there. I was helping out at Las Maria's, the authentic Mexican restaurant that was located in downtown Dodgeville in the 1990s. I was sure glad they had a driver as after a couple of margaritas.....!

I was crossing the main street in Dodgeville the other day and all vehicles stopped for me. The driver, coming from the north, yelled out "Hey, Riles - You know I'd stop for you!" I responded something like - "As long as you knew there are witnesses present!"

Speaking of stopping for people. I was in Mineral Point the other day and a very young girl was looking to cross the street. The vehicles in front of me paid no attention to her, but I stopped and waved her across the street. She smiled and went on her merry way - probably home.

During the professional football season I wear one of my three Green Bay Packers neckties to church on Sunday. I didn't wear one the week they had a bye and this week they played on Monday night. I had a lot of people ask me why I was wearing my Packers tie on Sunday since they didn't play until Monday. My reply was that they played this week, so I wore an appropriate tie and I would be wearing my Packers shirt on Monday. Most of them pretty much felt that was OK!

I had the chance to stop out at Dodgeville's Rickey Ridge Taxidermy (truck stop) Saturday since Clint was having an open house and a chili cook-off. I couldn't believe the number of people there and he had some 18 chili entrants. I didn't stick around to see who the winner was, but reports were they were all pretty tasty!

Dodgeville's Chinese Restaurant - The Golden Crown - opened back up today after some extensive remodeling. It now is known as the Great Wall Buffet with a buffet every day plus menu choices. Ruth is still there and as feisty as ever!

There was a pretty good crowd for the Iowa County Humane Society "Silent Auction" Sunday at the Dodger Bowl. There were a lot of great items to look over plus some great baked goods that I took home. Lunch was provided courtesy of First Weber.
