An "OLD" friend and faithful Dodgeville Chronicle reader, Barbara Buchner who resides in Texas, called the other day to say she was out of the hospital and rehab center and is now home. She is pretty weak, but is making progress. She really appreciated all the notes and contacts she received from people "back home" while she was on the mend!

Friday night's baseball World Series game between the Texas Rangers and St. Louis Cardinals was kind of a ho hum one after the game the night before. For some reason the Cardinal rally that provided much of the margin of victory that was spearheaded by a walk, a hit batsmen, a walk, another walk (forcing in a run) and another hit batsmen (forcing a run) just wasn't action compelling enough for me. I decided to hang it up watching any more of it after that all happened. Now, the night before there was a lot of action with both teams playing the "comeback kids" on several occasions. That was worth watching even though I really didn't care which team won I just like baseball! In some ways I wanted Texas to win since it would've been their first championship. Then, the Cardinals were the team that beat out the Milwaukee Brewers - so that speaks more for the Brewers. Well, St. Louis won, so the National League prevailed!

How about the Dodgeville-Mineral Point girls cross country team winning state again? And the boys team didn't do too badly either , finishing 4th! The girls just literally "ran away" with the championship, winning by 70 points. And senior Molly Hanson became the third Dodge-Point girl to be an individual state champion. And both teams have a lot of underclassmen with the girls having a good group of sophomores and freshmen - things look bright! Great job by the runners and coaches Denny, Joe and Matt!

Highland's football team is on a roll in Division 7 playoffs and will be up against Seneca this weekend in the third straight game held at Highland - 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. I have been at both playoff games at highland the past two weeks. I don't know where all the people come from that I see on the sidelines! Good Luck Cardinals!

With several key players from Barneveld on the team, the co-op football team of Mount Horeb/Barneveld is in the same spot in Division 3 as Highland is in Division 7. They go to Middleton to play a familiar neighbor in the Madison Edgewood team Friday night at 7:00 p.m. Good luck Vikings!

I was watching some of the Penn State-Illinois football game Saturday and saw the snow coming down. I'm sure glad it stayed east. I heard that some spots in the East got 28 inches of that white stuff. It will probably reach us sooner than we want!

Former Dodgeville resident and chamber of commerce director Ron Dentinger, who was once named Wisconsin's Funniest Man (with the accent on funny), sent me this little quip that is timely and besides he needs all the R he can get! "As far as I'm concerned you can forget Halloween. I dressed up as a crotchety old curmudgeon and nobody even noticed."
In case nobody knows what curmudgeon is - it's ill-tempered, unusually old man. And anyone who knows Ron knows he's both, especially OLD!
