Since you asked.... by Dodgeville School Superintendent Diane Messer
Summer school is a great opportunity for young students to continue learning in what is customarily in the Dodgeville School District a theme based environment. In years past we studied at the "circus", on space adventures, and geological expeditions searching for dinosaur bones! Last year we went "camping." Students enjoyed it so much that this year we will have "Summer Exploration Camp II" at the elementary level during August 1st through 19th.
Summer school gives students an opportunity to maintain their skills, particularly in reading and math. Plus they are able to apply their skills to authentic, theme based situations. What fun to be able to plan and solve realistic (or imaginary) problems!
When classes resume in September students find that they easily remember their skills and are much more ready to move forward in their new grade. They are better able to retain their reading levels, starting their year with greater confidence. We are happy to offer them such enjoyable summer
