Eagles trim Dodgers in non-conference game
A slice of history hung in balance for Barneveld who will head into Division 4 post season action next week after receiving a first round bye. The Eagles were able to finish their regular season unbeaten, the first Barneveld baseball team to wrap up that achievement.
The Eagles had nine runs on the board by the end of the second inning. Freshman Carson Carmody keyed a four run first with a two run home run over the right field fence. Cody Carmody led off the game with a double then advanced and scored on passed balls.
Beau Thompson's rbi single sent in Travis Fenton who had singled and advanced on a wild pitch and passed ball.
The five run second was started again by Cody Carmody who doubled and promptly scored on a single by Dustin Hodgson. Before the inning ended, Thompson had another rbi single and Jeremy Kitelinger cleared the bases with a three run double.
Hodgson had a two rbi double in a four run fourth. Devon Schult doubled in the final Barneveld run in the fifth.
Cody Carmody was 3x6, Hodgson 2x4, Schult and Carson Carmody 2x5 while Brad Zander, Thompson and Kitelinger had one hit.
Sawyer Lee started on the mound for the Eagles. He worked two innings, fanned two, walked three and gave up three hits along with three runs, all earned.
Kitelinger went three innings. He recorded four strikeouts, walked one and gave up four hits, along with four runs, two earned.
Carson Carmody finished and struck out three in two perfect innings.
The Dodgers had some fight in them and cut the lead to 9-6 with a run in the first, two in the second and three in the third.
Brad Simmons walked and scored on a double by Tanner Solberg in the first.
Evan Rossing delivered a two run double in the second.
Matt Crowley sent a two run rocket over the deep fence in right center in the third. Greg Brennum also had an rbi single.
Solberg knocked in the final run in the fourth when his rbi single plated Rossing who had also singled.
Solberg and Rossing both went 2x3 with a double. Nick Crowley, Matt Crowley and Brennum had a hit each.
Brennum started on the mound and went 1 2/3, He struck out one, walked four, surrendered seven hits and nine runs, all earned.
Jake Pluemer struck out four and walked one in 2 1/3.
Brad Simmons pitched the fifth and sixth, registering one strikeout, two walks, four hits and one run which was earned.
Tanner Solberg walked one as he faced four batters in the seventh.
The Dodgers travel to Platteville to begin Division 2 Regional play. Game time is 5 p.m.
