The Dodgeville Elementary School Parent Teacher Circle (PTC) held a fundraising live auction Saturday at the school gymnasium. A lot of donated items were sold to help defray the cost of new playground equipment that will go to replace the outdated stuff the school has now.

Wes Leonard - that's a name not too many people have ever heard. I had heard about Wes Leonard and his untimely death. I was on the internet Saturday and on the ESPN website I found a story, "Wes Leonard - Never Forgotten" - so I watched it. Talk about a tear jerker. It's about a star athlete for Fennville, Michigan High School who was leading his basketball team to a conference and unbeaten championship season. After the final conference game and after making the game-winning lay-up, he was celebrating with his teammates, collapsed and died of a heart attack (age 16) due to an enlarged heart. Members of the team were so broken up they had trouble going on with their season. They said, with the help of his memory and drive, they played the tournament and won the district championship. They lost in the semifinals of the next round - anyway it's well worth looking up on the computer and watching!

The weather sure is having a tough time making up its mind if this is really spring or if we're skipping the whole spring thing and going straight to summer. One day it's 40 degrees, the next it's 80, then it goes back to 50, then it goes up to 70 - isn't Wisconsin weather something?

The Dodgeville EMS will be hosting an open house this Saturday from 8-noon at their EMS building next to Springate Mall. They will be holding classes for you to learn "Hands On" CPR, the newest method in helping save lives. That's well worth the stop at the open house and it doesn't take long to learn - just a few minutes!

Another event going on in Dodgeville this weekend is that of the American Cancer Society "Relay for Life" that will be held at Harris Park inside of Ley Pavilion starting Friday night and going into Saturday morning. That's another stop to make that is well worth the trip. Teams will be going around the track all of the time and each team will have a stand set up with a lot of fun things for youngsters to do and goodies to buy - all helping raise money to go the prevention of a dreaded disease!

Sunday was a beautiful day for a ball game, so I went to Hollandale to watch the home talent game between the Hollandale rockies and the Dodgeville Knights. I didn't realize just how windy it was until I perched myself next to the dugout to take photos. A couple of times the wind blew me so hard that I completely missed the object in the photo. Also, a couple of times the wind blew the ball back from out of the park back into the park and another couple of times a high pop fly in the infield fell harmlessly on the ground. I'm still thinking that we are now getting our March winds!
