Big inning, errors cost Dodgers SWC wins
The SWC opponents or the big inning that ruined a good start.
The big inning came into play in two of the SWC games. The final loss of the 0-3 stretch was the result of nine errors.
A four run fifth erased a 4-2 Dodgeville lead against the SWC second place team Prairie du Chien Thursday.
Left handed senior Greg Brennum was sailing along with a three hitter and a 4-2 lead before running into some wildness that resulted in three walks and loaded bases.
Before the inning ended Drew Achenbach singled in a run and Mike Garrity reached the fences off reliever Kristian Haag for a three run home run.
The Blackhawks added three more in the sixth to win 9-4.
The Dodgers scored three times in the first inning. Haag led off with a walk and eventually scored on a wild pitch. Evan Rossing doubled and scored on a double by Tanner Solberg. Brad Simmons singled to plate Solberg.
The Dodgers scored again in the second when Nick Crowley walked, stole second and came home on Solberg's rbi single.
Solberg was 3x4 for the Dodgers. Haag, Rossing, Simmons, Brennum, Sawyer Pratt and Nick Crowley all had one hit.
Brennum struck out one and walked six. He gave up three hits and four runs, two earned.
Haag took the loss. He fanned one, walked two and gave up two hits and two runs.
Nick Crowley walked three and gave up two hits and three runs in his inning of work.
Against the league leading Richland Center Hornets Friday the Dodgers were trailing 6-3 after four innings and were within striking distance.
That is until the Hornets broke lose for a four run fifth enroute to a 10-3 win.
Todd Wienkes had two rbis and Darren Fruit one in the inning which was helped along by two Dodgeville errors.
The Dodgers scored twice in the second. Rossing doubled and eventually scored on an error. Tony Lease was hit by a pitch, stole second and scored on a double steal.
The Dodgers had seven hits. Rossing and Jake Pluemer both were 2x4 while Nick Crowley, Solberg and Simmons had a hit each.
Simmons and Pluemer both pitched three innings and Nick Crowley worked a scoreless seventh. Simmons fanned two and Pluemer one.
The SWC heartbreaker for the Dodgers came Tuesday when last place Lancaster took advantage of nine Dodgeville errors and scored four unearned runs to earn a 4-3 win.
That ruined a strong pitching performance by senior righthander Jacob Pluemer who fanned 12, walked only one, spaced four hits but fell victim to the defensive lapse.
Tanner Solberg helped keep the Dodgers within striking distance with a two run home run in the second. Simmons singled in a run in the sixth.
Simmons was 2x3 for the Dodgers while Haag, Solberg and Sawyer Pratt all had one hit.
