Along The Ad Routes

With all the city-wide garage sales going on Friday and Saturday in Dodgeville - and the crowd was pretty good both days - I got a chance to make it to a few bake sales. Here's a shot of the one at the Armory where they were raising money to send boxes of goodies to the troops overseas.

I was running the concession stand Sunday at the Dodgeville Home Talent baseball game that was won by the home team over Argyle. Boy was it ever a rotten day to be outside let alone play baseball. I would swear the gusts of wind must've reached 50 MPH at times. I couldn't really watch much of the game as I had to keep the west side window closed or everything not anchored down inside of the stand would've ended up in Ridgeway! I went outside to take a few photos, but the wind was pushing me off balance so much it was hard to get pictures. I don't ever remember the wind blowing that hard during a ball game and I've seen my fair share over the years!

Actually Sunday being the first day of May felt more like it was the first day of March! Say, maybe the calendar is going backwards now - that'd be OK with me.

Speaking of the calendar. With April just finishing, that makes one third of the year already over. I would swear that Christmas just ended. Who says time doesn't fly?

I'll bet the farmers have really been scurrying to get their crops in the first part of this week. I'm writing this on Sunday night, so i don' know what the weather was like on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, but it was supposed to be pretty nice and without any moisture. Not many (if any) of the crops have been able to be planted due to the crazy, wet, cold (so called) spring - it's now or never and even now may be too late!

This Sunday is Mother's Day - a day to thank the person who gave birth to you and/or who has been your motherly support for a good share of your years here on earth! I have been without my mother for going on 10 years now. I still think of her often and have a lot of people talk to me about a remembrance they have - such as her love for baseball and the number of games she'd watch each day. She even had mailmen, service or salespeople sit and watch or just talk baseball.

Happy Mother's Day to all Mothers and all those who are "Like a Mother"!
