Boy, the NCAA Men's Basketball brackets by most people have really taken a beating down the road. Sunday, VCU (11th seed) took out the last standing Number 1 seed in Kansas and the "Final 4" has been set with the one side of the bracket having a number 11 seed (VCU) and a number 8 seed (Butler). The other side is a little better in rankings with number 3 Connecticut and number 4 seed Kentucky playing. I wonder how many people out there have the "perfect" bracket? I'm sure there are some, but like one guy said - if you have it correct, you must've been picking by the mascot or school colors!

I had a chance to go to the Kohl Center in Madison to take in some of the WIAA Girls State Tournament Basketball games. It was fun to watch Prairie du Chien's Courtney Lewis, daughter of Dodgeville graduate Rod Lewis (wife Cathy) and granddaughter of Glenn and Jeanie Lewis (former employee who still fills in on occasion) play in a Division 3 semifinal game. They lost to eventual state champion Altoona who went on to beat Kewaunee in the title game. Courtney is going to UW-Eau Claire next year.

One of the best teams at the tournament was the Division 5 champion Wausau Newman Catholic, a private school that posibbly could've beat teams in at least the next two divisions up from them!

Speaking of basketball tournaments, last week I wrote about Carson Schneider playing for the La Crosse Aquinas team in D2 being the son of the former Kris Potterton it was actually her sister Kim who is Carson's mother - same family, wrong woman. I always have had trouble keeping women's names straight. Maybe that's why I have never been married - I keep calling my "dates" by the wrong name!

Since I was in Madison last Saturday I missed both the Iowa County Humane Society's Art Auction and the 25-years at Pizza Hut party at Midway Lanes for Jay Olson that was attended by someone I wanted to catch up with - Sarah (Fry) Alsakar. There are definitely times I think I need to be cloned!

Today is the day one of my lunch buddies - Dewey Christoph (Box Office Video) - turns that "magic" 65! The only problem with that is that I'm not too far behind....and neither is another "lunch buddy" in Terry Carroll (Dodgeville True Value)!
