Iowa-Grant School District in search of new superintendent
By Jean Berns Jones-jjones@thedodgevillechronicle.com
Slack is leaving to accept the position of administrator for the Wisconsin Dells School District, a district of 1,700 which is experiencing rising enrollment.
His resignation was accepted with thanks. It will be effective June 30th and his duties in Wisconsin Dells begin July 1st.
Iowa-Grant is seeking a full-time replacement for the position of superintendent. The duties of middle school principal will be determined by the strengths of the candidates who apply as superintendent and the reorganized administrative team.
Slack has spent much of his life in the Iowa-Grant School District. A Livingston native, he graduated from I-G High School in 1986.
In the 2001-02 school year, he returned to the district as high school principal. The following year, he became superintendent. For the past three years, he has served the dual roles of superintendent and middle school principal.
Slack and his wife Trina, a Mineral Point native, will move to Wisconsin Dells with their sons Chase and Brooks who are sixth and first grade students.
"I feel our two boys have received an excellent educational experience at Iowa-Grant," Slack said.
"As you know, Iowa-Grant is a special place for me and I am proud to have served the district," Slack wrote to the board in his resignation letter.
"Most recently, I appreciated the support the community provided the Iowa-Grant School District with the passage of two operating referendums that have immensely supported the district in a time of economic need. That tells me people care about Iowa-Grant," he added.
Professional Staff Bargaining
The school board decided to resume negotiation discussions with the professional staff on March 23rd, in regard to the 2011-12 school year.
The board will put forth an offer for a one year extension of contract, seeking the concessions included in the state's Budget Repair Bill. These include teachers contributing 50% to the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS) and contributing 12.6% of the premium cost for health and dental coverage.
In addition, the board would like to have final determination, after input from the teachers, to approve the health carrier and health plan. The contract offer will include a few other language items, as well.
The board also:
-Delayed action on Support Staff Bargaining for the 2011-12 year until after the professional staff agreement is reached.
-Will handle the matter of Non-Represented Staff Bargaining at the March 28th board meeting.
-Approved Marla Simon for the vacant assistant softball coaching position.
