Along The Ad Routes

By Mike Reilly-mreilly@thedodgevillechronicle.com

I spent Thursday and Saturday nights at the Kohl Center in Madison at the WIAA State Individual Wrestling Championships. I thought I'd show the scene from where I was sitting that was right across from me - pretty full! Congratulations to all the wrestlers who made it to state and those who gave it their all trying to get there. It was awesome seeing Mineral Point senior Tucker Pittz win his second straight Division 3 championship. Also, River Valley's Seth Liegel took second in D2 at 140 and he's just a sophomore. Lancaster had three freshmen there, all making it to the podium (placing in the top six). Two area officials - Harry Hellen (Dodgeville) and Dan Engelke (Rewey) were part of the refereeing crew.

Good luck to the Mineral Point wrestlers as they take part in the Division 3 State Team Tournament this coming Saturday!

Also, the boys basketball tournament began Tuesday night. Good luck to all the teams in your quest to get to the Kohl Center and bringing back some hardware!

Since the guy whose column used to appear below mine has his book out, I though it was only fair to reiterate the statement he wrote me a while back. In Ron Dentinger's own words: "This is an unabashed plug. My new book 'Dear Ron,' is now available. If you would like a copy, or know others who would like a copy, it is now available from the publisher at the link - https://www.createspace.com/3497858. And it is available from Amazon.com in about a week. The book can best be described as: For 20 years I did a column I called: "Down Time" in the Dodgeville Chronicle. Now and then I would have some fictitious reader write for advice. The book is a 178 page compilation of all those letters and the advice I gave in my stupid replies. In the back of the book I included a section I call "A serious look at humor." It talks about laughter. i.e. Why we laugh and how to us humor in front of a group, etc."

Ron was a guest speaker at a recent Dodgeville Kiwanis meeting and sold a bunch of books to those attending. He told me he will hold a book signing down the road at Linens & Accents in Dodgeville and possibly speak to some other local groups.

I'm not sure if I was a victim of an "ice storm" or a "hail storm" the other day. I was driving down one of the streets in Dodgeville and all of a sudden I heard bang, bang on the roof or my car. After investigating what had just happened, I figured out that ice had just fallen (on my car) when it came loose from the power line that happened to be right above me as I drove through that spot!

I forgot to mention something very "Super Bowl" related. Dean (at Dino's in Dodgeville) told me he received what could've been the longest distance "congratulations Packers" call that was made to this area. It came from Northern Ireland! There are a couple of guys who do a wool business with Lands' End and they stop at Dino's when they are in town, so he has gotten to know them pretty well. They had their ties with Lands' End severed for awhile, but are now back in business with the Dodgeville based company. So, when the Packers won they Super Bowl, they quickly responded to Dean with a huge "congratulations"!
