Softball seniors showcase their talents
Playing on the D2 White team were River Valley seniors Marina Faber, Shannon McGuire and Gina Ruhland. The team was coached by Tony DeWar, Mike Schmidt and Hannah Deidrich, all of Edgerton.
Three Highland seniors and one from Barneveld and Pecatonica played on the D4 Red squad which was coached by Chuck Meyer and Isaac Campbell of Pecatonica. The Highland stars were Rachel Aide, Emily Rose and Carlee Yanna. Representing Barneveld was the Six Rivers East Player of the Year Taylor Ruchti while Ellie Gifford represented Pecatonica.
The squad had plenty of local flavor as it included Kimi Bartell from Belmont, Jessica Mergen from River Ridge and Amy Tranel from Southwestern.
In a D2 game feature the White squad vs Black, the Black team came out with a 3-2 win. McGuire and Ruhland both had a hit in the game.
The White team picked up a win over the Red team with McGuire pitching a complete game win. She gave up seven hits, one run which was unearned and struck out five while walking one.
McGuire and Ruhland both had a hit in the game with Ruhland driving in two runs.
The D4 Red squad lost to the White team 9-6. Ruchti pitched three innings of the game and gave up 11 hits, seven earned runs, fanned one and walked three. She batted three times and scored a run.
Gifford, Rose and Yanna all went hitless while Aide was 1x1 and scored a run. Aide's hit went for a double.
The Red squad lost to the White squad in their second game, 8-7.
Ruchti scored a run while Gifford went 2x2 and knocked in a run. Rose also had an rbi. Aide and Yanna both went 1x2. Yanna drove in two runs and Aide scored once.
