Along The Ad Routes

Highland fans made it a "sea of red" Friday at Goodman Diamond in Madison cheering on their Cardinals softball team only to see them fall just short 3-2 in eight innings to a tough Chippewa Falls McDonell Central team.

It was Father's Day Sunday and I had a chance to spend it with brother Pat and two of his kids and families - Ryan and Shelly - with a cookout and playing a little ball with great-nephews Grant and Sean. The food was great - prepared by Lauri with Shelly supplying a lot of it. The only problem was that I had just had a Father's Day brunch at the Red Room with neighbors Jack and Dorothy Weirich and Paula Terrill. I really ate too much the first time, but then just a couple hours later I was at it again and boy I don't think i will eat the rest of the week! But, the ball playing has burned up a lot of those calories, so maybe by Tuesday I'll be ready to eat again!

Before I went to brunch Sunday I made a trip to the Father's Day Fly-In, Drive-In Breakfast at the Iowa County Airport that the Hodan Center traditionally hosts. It was raining most of the morning, but by the time I got there at around 8:00 a.m. the rain had subsided. I figure we got a little over a half inch in that bout with the possibility of more on Monday and maybe some severe weather on Tuesday. Oh well, it's Wisconsin and it's June!

Son Michael called me Friday night when I was at the concession stand at Centennial Park. It was a good thing I had the Sigg family there at the stand helping out so I got a chance to talk with him. He wished me Happy Father's Day during that call and sent me a card I received on Saturday. It's pretty scary that we both have the same sense of humor when it comes to cards! Oh, and he's getting one back from me on Wednesday - that's his birthday! Michael texted me on Sunday - Happy Father's Day, Will Call You Later - then he called me while I was at Ryan's place and I lost him in a gully in Iowa (if there is such a spot) as he was driving back from Mason City to Waterloo. He had to go to work. Then he texted he was in roaming so he'd call me later. Hey, I even ran a text or two to him - that's pretty good for an "old man"! Oh, he said his wife (Jolisa) had issued a few traffic tickets in her new "cop" job,, but hadn't had to draw her gun yet!

Farmers Appreciation Day is Sunday, July 10th at Harris Park in Dodgeville. there's always a huge parade kicking off the event in the morning with some great food, entertainment and displays at the park. The new Alice in Dairyland will be there and this year there will be an area Talent Contest. There still is room for entries, so if you have talent, sign up.

Mineral Point is gearing up for a huge July 4th celebration as usual. Keep an eye out for the schedule of events. It's always a lot of fun that weekend in Mineral Point as well as a lot of neighboring places that put on 4th of July celebrations!

I forced an IOWA driver to stop for me the other day. Yes, I waked right out in the crosswalk in front of the vehicle that was about a half a block away. I know the driver didn't want to stop as they approached the intersection, not stopping until the vehicle was through the first crosswalk - I was in the second crosswalk, so the vehicle was in the middle of an intersection when it stopped!
