I had a couple of people come up to me to give me THEIR driving stories. The first was someone who was at the stoplight by Kwik Trip North and was sitting there waiting for the light to turn from red to green so they could proceed. As they were sitting there waiting a car went right past them in the other lane - in other words they ran the red light. It was a good thing the driver of a vehicle coming from the right or left side was watching because they had to slam on their brakes to avoid a collision with that car. The person telling me said they did get a good look at the vehicle and it came from that state to our west.......IOWA!
The second story was from a person who had just read my column last week that talked about a driver going around a stopped car that was letting a pedestrian cross in the crosswalk and almost hit that person. This one was as near a miss as could be. A car was stopped for a young boy crossing the street and a vehicle went out around it. They said luckily the young boy ran across through the crosswalk as he got past the spot where the car would've nailed him by just inches. I imagine the driver of that vehicle had some scraping to do off the car seat!!!

I've got a driving story of my own too. I must confess I didn't let a person who was a the corner of North Iowa Street and West Division Street in Dodgeville cross the other day. It was Sunday and I was in a hurry to get to Centennial Park to set up the concession stand for the Dodgeville Knights home talent baseball game. There was a young guy standing on the corner and I didn't stop to let him cross. But to my defense, he was standing behind the light pole on the corner and he WAS as thin as the light pole. I didn't see him until I was already by him and the corner - and there was a vehicle in front of me that didn't stop either PLUS there were four motorcycles behind me who didn't stop for him or the woman who had reached the corner by the time they got there - and she was not a happy camper!

There are two parish festivals this weekend. The first is the first ever Dodgeville St. Joseph family festival on Saturday. There are such things as a family run/walk beginning at 9 a.m. and then a lot of food, fun and games following. The second is at St. Bernadette's in Ridgeway on Sunday. That's a combination of the Ridgeway and Barneveld parishes. That begins with a polka Mass in the morning. There are a lot of fun things following for the entire family to do.

Congratulations to the Dodgeville-Mineral Point track & field state participants from last weekend at La Crosse. The girls 4x800 relay team finished second in Division 2 - Mairin Cahill, Abby Philipps, Macy McConnell and Molly Hanson - and Molly Hanson finished second in the 800 meter run. Others got team points and placed high.

The Barneveld baseball team was playing Tuesday for a chance to go to the Division 4 state tournament. I hope things turned out right for them. Also, Highland's softball team was playing Tuesday night for a chance to play in the Division 4 sectional finals on Friday at Boscobel. Check out our sports pages to see their outcome!
