Wolfe no-hits Seneca in five innings
The Cardinal junior only allowed four ground balls and one fly ball - the only ball to get to the outfield.
Two of the grounders went to first baseman Kendall Wienkes and the other two to her cousin Taylor, who fired to her for both outs.
The fly ball to the outfield unfortunately led to one of two Seneca runners to reach base. It hit left fielder Morgan Bomkamp's glove and fell for the lone Cardinal error.
The other Seneca runner to reach base came via the walk, the only one Wolfe issued in the contest.
The Cardinal hurler had 11 strikeouts in the 15 outs.
The game was 0-0 for three innings, but when the Cardinal bats came alive, they did in a big way.
Highland plated nine runs in the fourth inning with Emily Rose leading off that frame with a home run, making her long ball the game-winner.
Later in the frame Kendall Wienkes had a bases loaded double for three RBI.
Their lone run in the fourth ended the game in five.
Seneca used two pitchers with Allie Ostrander going 4 1/3 and taking the loss. She fanned wo, walked one, gave up seven earned runs on eight hits. Jen Aspenson finished. She struck out nobody, walked one and gave up two runs, both earned, on two hits. She also hit a batter.
On the day, Carlee Yanna was 3x4 with a double, a triple, a run scored and two RBI.
Bomkamp was 2x3 with a run scored, a pair of doubles and two RBI.
Rose was 1x2, scored twice and had the home run.
Taylor Wienkes was 2x2 and scored once with Kendall Wienkes being 1x3 with the double and three RBI.
Rachel Aide had the other hit and scored once.
"It took us a while to get our bats really going. We were hitting the ball, but right at them," said Highland coach Sarah Hennessey.
"Emily (Rose) started it with her lead-off home run in the fourth and things fell in place after that."
"Seneca helped us in the fourth with their only two errors of the game too."
"Emily pitched an excellent game. She got ahead right away on every hitter and didn't allow them much contact."
The #1 Cardinals will host #2 DeSoto Thursday (taday) in the regional finals.
