Cardinal girls whip LaFarge


Highland's softball team made short work of their number 1 vs number 8 softball match-up Thursday with a 14-0 win over visiting LaFarge.
The Cardinals scored four times in the first, three times in the second and put the game away with a seven spot in the third.
Carlee Yanna started thigs off with a first-inning single. Morgan Bomkamp immediately doubled her home.
Emily rose followed with a two bagger of her own to score Bomkamp and she came in on another double - this one by Rachel Aide.
Kendall Wienkes singled and came in as Brenna Ramsden singled.
Another Bomkamp double and a single by Rose meant a run in the third. Rose came home when Kendall Wienkes polled a home run.
Ramsden started the fourth with a two bagger with Leigh Drury and Emily Wolfe both singling. Yanna drove in two with a single andto wmore came home on yet another double by Bomkamp. Aidee coaxed a walk and Kendall Wienkes plated a pair of runs sith a single to round out the 14 runs.
On the day, Bomkamp and KendallWienkes both were 3x3, Yanna, Rose, Ramsden and Drury each had two hits, Wolfe and Aide both had one for a total of 16.
Wolfe struck out 11, walked four and allowed just four hits, all singles. Two came in the third and two in the fourth.
LaFarge hurler Taynee Nemec struck out one and walked one.
Their hits came from Emily Larson, Cori Strait, Nemec and Megan Dittner.
"We came out with our bats going right away," said Highland coach Sarah Hennessey. "Our defense played pretty well and that's always a plus."
