Barneveld handles Belmont in five innings

If the number eight is a lucky one for Barneveld's baseball team then they would find that out on Wednesday.
That's when the Eagles baseball team hosts Southwestern in the D4 regional finals. And it all came about from a 15-5 five inning win over Belmont Tuesday.
The Wildcats edged Pecatonica 4-3 Tuesday.
Barneveld's Sawyer Lee and Cody Carmody teamed up for a four hitter in the contest. Lee went 3 2/3 innings. He struck out six, walked four and gave up four runs, none being earned. Carmody finished striking out two and issuing two free passes while allowing one run, not earned.
Belmont started Matt Magby, who lasted just two frames. He struck out a pair, walked five and have up seven runs, five being earned. Jesse Richardson finished striking out six, walking five and yielding eight runs, five of them earned.
Jeremy Richardson was 2x3 for Belmont.
Barneveld collected 12 hits in the contest. Cody Carmody was 2x4 with a double and two runs scored.
Dustin Hodgson was 3x3 with three runs scored and drove in five runs. He had a two-run homer as the second batter of the game as the game-winning hit and drove in the game-ending run with a single in the fifth.
Carson Carmody was 2x3 with a pair of RBI and scored twice and Brad Zander was 2x4, scored twice and drove in three runs with a two bagger in the fourth.
Lee helped his own cause going 2x4 with a double. He led off the fourth and fifth and scored both times.
"This is the first time I've thrown my number three and four pitchers in a regional second round game," said Barneveld coach Lance Schmitz. Whoever we play tomorrow will see our number one and two (if needed) and if they beat us, they beat our best."
"The heat got to Sawyer. You could see he was done and Cody came in and did a good job. Belmont got two of their four hits in the fourth and that's when we had an error too."
"We walked way too many guys. That's something we can't have happen at this level."
