The American Junior Golf Association has finalized the 78-player field for the Midwest Junior Players Championship, July 18-21, at The House on the Rock Resort - Springs Course in Spring Green, Wis. During the Midwest Junior Players Championship, 12 states, Indonesia, Italy, South Korea, Taiwan, and Thailand will be represented.
In this year's tournament field, seven players have signed National Letters of Intent to continue their golf career at the collegiate level, most notably Thomas O'Bryan of Aurora, Ill. (Wisconsin) and Jake McKinney of Big Bend, Wis. (Maryland).
Five of the nine Wisconsin natives will play in their first AJGA event: Kevin Coakley of Brookfield, Eric Hagstrom of Middleton, Jack Lorge of Verona, Joseph Martin of Green Bay and Matthew Winter of Appleton.
In the Boys Division, Kraig McLeod of Pebble Beach, Calif., has two career wins, including the 2010 Mexican Golf Federation Junior Open. Jacob Gould of Carmel, Ind., the incoming freshman at Texas Christian, looks for his first AJGA victory as he tied for second at the 2010 McArthur Towel & Sports Future Legends tournament.
Highlighting the Girls Division is Christine Lin of Austin, Texas, who played in the event last year where she tied for fifth. She is currently No. 89 in the Polo Golf Rankings.
The Girls Division includes Bernice Sitompul of Ann Arbor, Mich., who has three top-15 finishes in her AJGA career. In the 2010 Midwest Junior Players Championship, Sitompul finished in eighth.
A tournament practice round will be held on Monday, July 18, with a 2 p.m. shotgun. Tournament play will begin Tuesday, July 19, and continue through Thursday, July 21, with tournament tee times running from 7 - 8:48 a.m. off the Nos. 1 and 10 tees. An awards ceremony will start immediately following the conclusion of play Thursday, July 21. Spectators are welcome to attend free of charge.
The American Junior Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the overall growth and development of young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf. The AJGA provides valuable exposure for college golf scholarships, and has an annual junior membership (boys and girls ages 12-18) of approximately 5,000 junior golfers from 49 states and more than 40 countries. To ensure scholarship opportunities for all junior golfers who have the skill, the AJGA created the Achieving Competitive Excellence (ACE) Grant program to provide financial assistance to young players in need.
Titleist, the AJGA's National Sponsor, has been the catalyst and driving force behind the Association's success since 1989. Rolex, which is in its third decade of AJGA support, became the inaugural AJGA Premier Partner in 2004. In 2007, after 12 years of support, Polo Ralph Lauren became the AJGA's second Premier Partner.
AJGA alumni have risen to the top of amateur, collegiate and professional golf. Former AJGA juniors have compiled more than 500 victories on the PGA and LPGA Tours. AJGA alumni include Stewart Cink, Matt Kuchar, Hunter Mahan, Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods, Paula Creamer, Cristie Kerr, Inbee Park and Morgan Pressel.
